Introduction

Fish & Game New Zealand, in the Nelson/Marlborough region, were contracted by Richard
Lamb to undertake a further fisheries and invertebrate assessment of the lower Parapara River
and gorge, and comment on potential issues associated with a proposed hydro-scheme on
freshwater fisheries values. The survey work follows on from earlier work undertaken in the
area by Fish & Game New Zealand (Deans 2003). The proposed power plant generation site
is located at NZMS 260 topographic map M25: 2481770 6051250 (Figure 1) and was visited
on 26-27 May 2004, by field officers Rhys Barrier & Lawson Davey. Results of the further
assessment are presented below.
